RainbowRainbow Bridge

Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here,
that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor;
those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,
just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing:
they each miss someone very special,
someone who was left behind.

They all run and play together,
but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.
His bright eyes are intent;
his eager body begins to quiver.
Suddenly, he breaks from the group,
flying over the green grass, faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet,
you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.

The happy kisses rain upon your face;
your hands again caress the beloved head,
and you look once more into those trusting eyes,
so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together...

      Avonlea Crimson Sage

              July 8, 1994 - March 28, 2002

Sage died last night, and a piece of my heart went with him.  He was a “once in a lifetime” dog.  He fought bravely, but simply could not win this battle.  As with everything in his life, he died on his terms...holding on long enough to give me 2 really wonderful days to say goodbye.  When we used to compete in agility, he would always look into my eyes before we started a course and that calmed me, and gave me total confidence that we could handle anything out there.  Just before he died, he looked up at me with that same calm confident look and then simply lay his head in my lap and died.  I can't believe that he is gone, I can't imagine a world without Sage.   I have so many wonderful memories of a life that was so short...driving in the car (he *loved* riding in vehicles), Sage running easily next to the bike, doing 60 weave poles in just over 9 seconds, ‘break-dancing’ while waiting in line for our next run at a trial, and of course, running agility.  He was one of those dogs that loved agility and brought drive and an awesome power to every sequence he worked.  Sage had a Q rate of over 95%, and almost always was the fastest dog in his division.  He was the best team mate I ever dreamed of doing agility with, and taught me the joy of giving your dog some of the responsibility for the course.  He was an eager “demo” dog, and countless students are better handlers thanks to his patient tutoring.  He was, in my eyes, the most beautiful dog I have known...whether running agility, standing in the conformation ring, or lying quietly next to me.  Rest now friend, until that time that I come for you again with a quiet “Say!” and the “Yip!” that you love.

CH Candray's Lucidity, CD, NA, (Lucy)

I have some sad news to report to  ACE members. I had to put my beloved Keeshond, CH Candray's Lucidity, CD, NA, otherwise known as Lucy, to sleep yesterday, Thursday 7/11/02. She was diagnosed with advanced cancer of the stomach on Tuesday.  I am still in shock, as it came on so quickly.  She was my "once in a life time dog" and I know that anyone who has ever lost a dog that special knows what I am feeling.  She was only 8 1/2 years young and I had so many plans and dreams for us yet to come.  One never knows what lies ahead, so guess we need to remember to love that dog every day like its his/her last!    Vicky Leitner
